I remember that I lost the file from the Downloads folder in my home directory. When the testdisk utility displays all the directories for your operating system, find the directory from where you deleted/lost the file. Step 7 – Find the directory from where you lost the file This will list all the directories on your partition. Make your choice and then choose the List option from the options displayed at the bottom of the screen. I lost my file while using Linux, Ubuntu. If your selected drive has multiple partitions, the next screen allows you to choose the relevant one from them. Step 6 – Select the disk partition where you lost the file In this utility, if you get to a point you didn't expect, you can go back with the q key. For this, select the Advanced option and press Enter. But here we are only interested in recovering our accidentally deleted file. Through the options shown in the screenshot above, you can select any of those features. Lost file recovery is just one of testdisk's features the utility offers much more than that. When you have specified the correct drive and its partition type, the following screen will appear: Step 5 – Select 'Advanced' option for file recovery If you are sure that the test disk intelligence is incorrect, you can make the correct choice from the list and then press Enter. The utility will automatically highlight the correct option. Now that you have selected a drive, you need to specify its partition table type on the following screen: Step 4 – Select the partition table type of your selected drive
